Children's Budget Act Update

Senator Robert Menendez recently introduced S. 3277, the "Children's Budget Act," which is a very simple piece of legislation that would require any future Administration, when it submits its budget, to gather all the different sources of federal funding for children's programs and show how the federal budget is impacting children's programs overall.

Policy News:

On June 26, 2008, in a 92 to 6 vote, the U. S. Senate approved the War Supplemental Appropriations bill that included moratoria until April 2009 on six Medicaid regulations. The Senate approved the language that the House passed last Friday. The President is expected to sign the bill into law, probably in the coming week.

Responsive Grants Program

The Responsive Grants Program is Sierra Health Foundation's newest program, launched in June 2008. We have committed $2.4 million in funding over the next two years for nonprofit organizations and public agencies in our 26-county funding region.

The goal of our Responsive Grants Program is to promote health and well-being in our communities. We are asking nonprofit organizations and agencies to tell us what their community needs and concerns are, and how a grant from Sierra Health Foundation can help address them.

California's Healthy Start Field Office is asking for your help.

A short survey has been sent to principals of California schools that serve a significant proportion of students who receive free or reduced- price meals (50% and above). The purpose of this survey is to ascertain the current level of learning support services at those schools; we are particularly interested in learning about the breadth of services and funding streams.

 

The HSFO is a project of the Center for Community-School Partnerships.
The HSFO is a collaboration between University of California, Davis and the California Department of Education.
The HSFO is located in the School of Education's CRESS Center.
